Pozieres War Animal Memorial


What began as a humble project to open a small monument in the heart of the WWI battle fields quickly drew the attention of other counties and has now become an international war animal memorial for all countries.

In July 2016 AWAMO opened Australians first international war animal memorial. The memorial is located at the windmill site near the town of Pozieres in FRANCE, which Charles C.E Bean described as;

"a ridge more densely sown with Australian sacrifice than any other place on earth." [Ref: C.E.W. Bean, Anzac to Amiens, Australian War Memorial, Canberra, 1983, p 264]

The opening was attended by Dr Brendan Nelson, Dr harry cooper ADF officials, senior political and defence personnel from Australia, New Zealand, UK and France.

The monument is maintained year round by French locals who do not wish to forget the sacrifice made by Australians and our war animals and as Australians we shouldn't forget them either. You can see a video of the monument below;
